News: Newcastle have £10m release clause in left-back’s contract

|

Newcastle United can make Jetro Willems’ loan move into a permanent deal next summer for just £10m.

The clause was negotiated into Willems’ contract, and reports in Germany suggest that Newcastle are keen to activate the clause after the Dutchman has made an assertive start to life on Tyneside.

The 25-year-old, who has 22 caps for his country, has recorded a goal and two assists in just six games for the Toon and has also kept two clean-sheets.

Signed as a backup for Matt Ritchie an injury to the Scottish international has seen Willems play a much more prominent role in Newcastle’s season, and he has impressed in most of the games he has played.

Certainly, if he can keep up his current form for the whole season, £10m will look like a bargain for a player who can’t be that far off an international recall.

Willems has adapted to the Premier League well, and he also claims he has settled into life on Tyneside.

So, the news that Newcastle can buy Willems for such a low fee should come as a massive boost to a lot of Toon fans.
