News: Newcastle 19-year-old midfielder will be called up by his country

|

Newcastle United’s new hero Matty Longstaff is to receive a call-up to the England U21 squad after a dream Premier League debut.

Longstaff scored the winner in the Toon’s 1-0 win over Manchester United and also turned in a solid performance – in which he showed immense composure on the ball and dominated the midfield.

This performance has made Aidy Boothroyd and Lee Carsley sit up and take notice of the young Geordie, and the Daily Mail reports that Matty Longstaff will be in line for a call-up for the next round of England games.

This report was further backed up by direct quotes from Boothroyd who claims England are aware of Matty.

He also said that Matty will face strong competition from the likes of Joe Willock and Phil Foden.

The younger brother of Sean will likely be playing in the Toon’s next two games against Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers as Isaac Hayden will still be banned – so Matty will have an excellent chance to not only nail down a spot in the Newcastle team but also in Boothroyd’s side.

A call-up to the U21’s would be another step in a career that has taken off over the past few months, and if he continues to keep his feet planted and work hard, then the future is very bright for young Matty Longstaff.
