News: 26-year-old Newcastle defender rated at £7.2m puts in a shocking performance

DeAndre Yedlin returned to the Newcastle starting XI for the Toon’s 1-0 win over Manchester United, and the American defender played well, but he followed up this solid display with a horror show for the USA national team.

Canada beat America for the first time in 34 years, and Yedlin was at fault for one of the goals losing his man Alphonso Davies at the back post.

This has led to some intense criticism from a lot of American fans who want Yedlin to be dropped.

The former Spurs man has established himself in the Premier League over the last two years but has come in for some criticism for his lack of positional sense – which he seems to try and make up for with his pace.

The Toon have three right-backs now, so there is finally some competition for Yedlin, and both Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo will not be content with a place on the bench.

Luckily for Yedlin, I doubt his international performances really bother Steve Bruce, and Yedlin was very good against Manchester United, so I think he will start against Chelsea.

However, what this performance for his country proves is that Yedlin still has limitations in his game that he must work on.
