Newcastle’s Pre-Season Plans Yanked

|

Newcastle United’s proposed pre-season fixtures in America have seemingly fallen apart as the “Ohio Cup”, which was set to feature Newcastle, Wolves and two Spanish clubs, has failed to get the green light from the MLS leaving Newcastle scrambling to find new fixtures. [via Shields Gazette]

Villareal and Valencia were tipped to be the Spanish clubs joining the Premier League outfits for the matches scheduled to take place in Cincinatti and Columbus. With such little notice for the cancellation, it has left the clubs with little time to make new plans. Wolves are expected to go ahead with an American tour, but Newcastle are said to be “exploring other options”.

Fans would likely be thinking that a trip to Saudi Arabia would make sense to continue the mission of raising the profile over there, but that is extrememly unlikely to happen given the baking temperatures there during the summer months – hence the World Cup moving to winter this year.

Now that we have ambitious owners who actually want to grow the club and with an endless supply of funds, you’d think the world is our oyster, so it will be very interesting to see what actually happens.

As with every pre-season, Newcastle still plan to have at least one home friendly before the new season gets underway.
