Newcastle United face a late hurdle in the club’s efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain product Moussa Sissako, as RMC Sport journalist Loic Tanzi understands Brighton & Hove Albion have made contact with the Toon target.

The RMC Sport journalist covered United’s interest earlier in the month, and claimed we were closing in on a deal for the 18-year-old defender, after sounding out a move for several weeks.

Sissako has no future at the Parc des Princes as PSG boss Thomas Tuchel does not see a route for the Clichy-born prospect to work his way into the first-team, and therefore has opened the door for the Magpies to swoop.

However, the Seagulls have also looked to swoop, as Tanzi understands Brighton have likewise put a four-year contract on the table, and left it to Sissako to decide if he would prefer life on the English south coast or in the North East.

Deciding life at the Amex Stadium over St James’ Park would offer the 6ft youngster an opportunity to work with new Brighton boss Graham Potter, who promoted several of Swansea’s academy players to the first-team during his time in charge of the Welsh outfit.

Now-Manchester United forward Dan James profited comfortably from working under Potter last season, as he scored six goals and penned ten assists across all competitions during his breakthrough term, and earnt four senior international appearances for Wales.

Sissako is expected to confirm his decision imminently, with the transfer market closing for Premier League sides on Thursday at 17:00.
