Newcastle win

Newcastle launched a superb fight back as they came from behind to beat Liverpool at St James`s park yesterday.

Newcastle old boy Craig Bellamy put the Merseyside club ahead after only 6 minutes when he pounced on Steve Harper`s poor clearance.

And perhaps the game would have had a different outcome had Bellamy managed to capitalise on some of the other chances that fell his way. But as it was the Welshman`s return to Newcastle served only to remind the home fans that the gobby little git can`t finish for toffee.

Newcastle, however, grew in stature as the game went on and were able to equalise when Martins capitalised on a piece of good fortune. Reina`s clearance rebounded of the Newcastle striker and Martins kept his composure to tuck away his 12th of the season.

And the comeback was completed in the second half when, of all people, Steven Taylor was fouled in the Liverpool box. Nobby Solano stepped up and coolly dispatched the penalty.

This result certainly gives the club something to build on and it certainly brought great joy to many a Newcastle fan to see the smile wiped of Bellamy`s face.
