Newcastle United to welcome back 30-year-old striker for trip to the capital

|

Steve Bruce has confirmed that Andy Carroll is fully fit for Newcastle United’s visit to the London Stadium.

Carroll missed last week’s 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, and many Toon fans were fearing the worst for the 30-year-old’s fitness, but he has recovered and trained and is ready to play against his former club.

Carroll spent seven years with the Hammers, but injuries limited him to just 142 appearances in that time.

Newcastle, however, will still be without Matt Ritchie, Florian Lejeune, and Fabian Schar while Isaac Hayden is back from his three-match ban.

This is perfect timing because Sean Longstaff begins his suspension after the first red card of his Premier League career last week.

Both sides head into the game in poor form with West Ham having only won one in four and Newcastle one in eight.

Expect a tight and cagey affair where one goal might be enough to win the game.

It would be a dream for Carroll if he were to come off the bench and score that winning goal for Newcastle.

Even if he doesn’t it is good to have Andy back and ready to help us in our relegation fight.
