Newcastle United’s FA Cup run ended at the quarter-final stage as they were well-beaten by Manchester City at St James’ Park this evening.

The visitors took the lead eight minutes before half-time after being gifted a spot-kick when surprise starter Fabian Schar pushed Gabriel Jesus to the floor on his second attempt before Raheem Sterling fired one past Karl Darlow halfway through the second period.

It means the Magpies are now consigned to only Premier League action.

Once again, there were no supporters in attendance but with the match being broadcast live on BBC, plenty of the United faithful were watching their side do battle with last season’s league and cup winners.

Who is the better CM at Newcastle?

And many were left reeling by the performance from midfielder Sean Longstaff, who was making his first game since a substitute appearance against the Saints back in March.

Per SofaScore, the 22-year-old could only muster up nine accurate passes all game and also lost possession ten times. He was certainly rather ineffective in the heart of midfield.

As a result of his disappointing effort on the pitch, some fans blasted him for being a “passenger” as well as being “atrocious” whilst one member for the Magpies support went as far as brandishing him a “one-season wonder”.

Here’s the rest of the reaction…
