Newcastle Trail Premier League Rival In Pursuit Of £16m Rated Ukrainian

|

Wolves have a deal in place to sign Manchester City midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to the Daily Star, but the 21-year-old has yet to decide on his future.

It is believed we are also in the race for the player, but with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side having reportedly already agreed a £16m fee with City for the Ukrainian, we are not favourites to sign him.

Zinchenko’s favoured position is in the centre of midfield, but he was employed exclusively as a left back by Pep Guardiola last season, playing 14 matches in all competitions under the Spaniard.

The Ukrainian international signed from Russian FK Ufa in 2016, and he was sent out on a season-long loan spell to PSV Eindhoven the same year.

During his time at the Dutch club, he struggled for game time with 17 first-team appearances in all competitions, including six starts.

With his lack of matches at the top level, the likelihood of Rafa Benitez sanctioning a sizeable offer for Zinchenko is low. Our interest was likely in view to a loan deal rather than a permanent transfer.
