Newcastle to miss out on €6m prospect with deal for international captain close – report

|

Newcastle look set to miss out on signing FC Sochaux’s Lucien Agoume, as FC Inter News understand a deal for the 17-year-old to join Inter Milan is close.

The fee is said to be in the region of €6million (£5.3m) including performance-related add-ons, with the 6ft prospect expected to arrive at the San Siro as early as next week to finalise the finer details of his three-year contract and carry out an obligatory medical.

What has helped the Nerazzurri in landing Agoume’s signature is that the central midfielder is thought to have made a promise with himself that he would join the Milan side if they made an approach, while Inter also enjoy a strong relationship with his agent Djibril Niang and intermediaries Oscar Damiani and Crescenzo Cecere.

Supposedly, we had been one of several other sides to show an interest in the central midfielder, who enjoyed a breakthrough season in the French second division in the 2018/19 term.

Manchester City, Barcelona, and Juventus were also thought to be keen, but alas look set to also miss out on the France U17 captain, who has represented Les Bleus 15 times across their junior ranks to date, scoring twice for their U16s.

The Yaoundé, Cameroon-born midfielder featured in 16 games for Sochaux in the recent campaign, having made his senior debut as a 76th-minute substitution against ES Troyes AC, although he would have to wait until December before staking claim to a regular spot in Peter Zeidler’s side.
