Newcastle target keen to know what future holds as potential suitor ramps up interest – report

|

Newcastle have shown a keen interest in Juventus left-back Rogerio Oliveira da Silva throughout the calendar year, and the United board are expected to renew their intrigue this summer with a bid in the region of €20m to €25million (£17.8m to £22.2m).

But while the Magpies hierarchy continue to ponder the benefits of signing the Brazilian for that amount, reports in Italy have surfaced suggesting the 21-year-old is keen to lock down his immediate future. He has spent the past two years out on loan, and is now willing to leave Juventus if he feels his time with the Turin outfit has reached its natural conclusion.

Rogerio joined the Old Lady in 2016, but only spent the first year of his contract at the Allianz Stadium before returning to his former stomping ground US Sassuolo on loan, with whom he made 35 appearances in the 2018/19 term and carved out three goals (one scored, two assisted).

TuttoMercatoWEB understand Juve may now look to cash in on his work at the Mapei Stadium, as Benfica, Sassuolo, and we are showing an increasing eagerness to add the Brazil U23 international to our ranks on a permanent transfer.

There is also interest from teams in Spain’s La Liga, but Sassuolo are currently at the head of the queue after manager Roberto De Zerbi declared: “To play at Sassuolo we need strong motivation.

“This applies to [Stefano] Sensi, [Kevin-Prince] Boateng, [Domenico] Berardi, [Pol] Lirola, [and] Rogerio. If they have the fire inside to do another year or two with us, the doors for them, at least for me, are wide open.”

The Italian publication goes on to add that Juventus and Sassuolo have already met on several occasions to discuss potential transfers between the two Serie A sides, with Rogerio’s name cropping up. However, it will not be until the end of the month that the Azzurri intend to sit down with the left-back’s entourage.
