Newcastle Should Swoop For Second Chelsea Star After Kenedy – Agree?

|

Following the confirmation of the signing of Kenedy on a season-long loan, my thoughts have quickly turned to who we could sign next.

A striker seems like the most obvious choice, but with the club struggling to get a deal done for Nice’s Alassane Plea, I think we could perhaps turn our attention towards improving our midfield options.

The departure of Mikel Merino is likely, and while the arrival of Ki Sung-Yueng is welcome, we need a greater threat in the final third of the pitch, who can create and score goals.

The Chronicle report that Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been targeted by the club this summer, and with the England international returning from the World Cup, his future could well be decided in the next few weeks.

Signing him on a temporary basis is not a possibility due to the Premier League rules on signing more than one player on loan from the same team, but the 22-year-old is believed to be keen on a permanent departure if he isn’t a regular for the Blues next season.

Much will depend on the London club’s next manager. Maurizio Sarri is the favourite and could take over from Antonio Conte soon. If the Italian does bring in Jorginho from Napoli as some expect, a central midfield trio of Kante, Fabregas and the new signing would mean very few opportunities for Loftus-Cheek.

His price tag could be a stumbling block, but would he be someone we should go after? Let me know in the poll:
