Newcastle Should Steer Clear Of £11m Offer For 27-Year Old Wide Man – Agree?

|

The Daily Mail are reporting that we are one of three clubs interested in signing West Brom winger Matt Phillips this summer.

Newly promoted Cardiff City are believed to be leading the chase for the 27-year-old and are preparing an £11m bid for the wide man, but it is believed that both us and Championship side Middlesbrough are also showing an interest.

The Chronicle has since denied that we have made an approach for the Scottish international. The local newspaper believes we are very much focused on signing a striker, but it seems Matt Ritchie could still leave if Stoke City put in a high enough bid and we can find a replacement.

Andros Townsend is said to be topping a list of players who could replace our no.11. Personally, I’m hoping Phillips’ name is not on that list. Last season, he made 30 appearances in the league, scoring just twice and providing two assists.

In contrast, Ritchie scored three goals and provided six assists in 35 Premier League games. Considering the winger is just a year older, a move for his Scottish team-mate doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. What do you think? Let me know in the poll:
