Talk of the Tyne has been voting on our player of the season for the 2016/17 championship winning season.

With a number of candidates who could lay claim to winning the vote, there was a good six or seven players that genuinely had a decent shout of winning the accolade.

We had Dwight Gayle who’s goal scoring looked like it could get out of control before his injury hit second half of the season, we also had Jonjo Shelvey who was getting the plaudits every game at one stage.

There was also captain Jamal Lascelles who was leading by example with some decent displays early on and Ciaran Clark who was an excellent buy as some of his displays were top drawer as he was like a rock at the back.

Mention also to Karl Darlow for making the goalkeeper’s jersey his for the majority of the season, Yoan Gouffran for his best season here yet , probably his last and Ayoze Perez for putting a frustrating start behind him to provide some evidence at the end of the season of the previous potential he showed in his early days here.

However, there was a clear winner here with Scottish international Matt Ritchie getting the fair share of people’s vote.

Ritchie aside from his many man of the match performances scored 16 goals and got 9 assists.

He got 62% of the vote followed by Ciaran Clark with 15% and Jonjo Shelvey with 13%.
