Last season, the Newcastle support welcomed the loan signing of the Brazilian winger, Kenedy.
The performances he produced were a breath of fresh air in what, initially, was a worrying period for the club as they flirted with relegation.
Indeed, Kenedy made such an impact that the club pursued his services for the current season and were able to persuade Chelsea to loan us the 22-year-old for the whole of the 2018 / 2019 season.
However, the Brazilian hasn’t gotten fully into his stride this season with his most memorable moment being a poor display away at Cardiff City where he failed to find a team-mate with a successful pass and fluffed a last-gasp penalty that would have given Newcastle the three points on offer.
Today, a leading tabloid publication, the Sun, carries an interesting article in which Kenedy openly admits he doesn’t see his long-term future as being at Newcastle, with the winger being quoted as having remarked:
“It was good to be loaned to get more playing time – better than staying at Chelsea and not playing.
“I hope this year I can make a good season for Newcastle and go back to Chelsea to continue.
“I have a dream to return and to be a champion for the club.
“My dream is to win a major title.”
Not the kind of words we like to read first thing in the morning and I can only ponder over how they’ll be accepted by the Newcastle support.
