Newcastle Legend Speaks Out On Ashley’s Latest Purchase

|

Alan Shearer has reacted to Sports Direct’s purchase of House of Fraser by jokingly asking which position Mike Ashley’s newest purchase plays.

It was announced this morning that the club’s owner had rescued the struggling retail chain in a £90m deal, prompting the former striker to tweet:

With the club having made a net profit of £21m during this transfer window, more than any other Premier League club, the fans are entitled to ask where the money has gone.

Nobody was asking Ashley to spend £100million like Fulham or West Ham, but he didn’t even keep to his promise that Rafa would be given every penny generated by the club.

What makes it all the more perplexing is that spending in the transfer market could benefit the club in the long-term. Our finances could be improved by finishing further up the table, bringing us greater prize money domestically and by qualifying for Europe.

It appears to be purely short-term thinking by a man looking to sell up.
