Newcastle Learn Their FA Cup Fate

The draw for the third round of the FA Cup saw Newcastle enter the frame.

Newcastle United were drawn away against League One side, Sheffield Wednesday.

A trip down the M1 to Sheffield is a decent draw for the first game in the FA Cup this season to face League One opposition. Other Premier League teams weren’t so lucky with Everton having to make the trip to Manchester United and Manchester City v Chelsea likely the pick of the bunch.

The ties are due to be played across January 6th-9th.

Sheffield Wednesday are the team that were so nice to let us have Steve Bruce a few years ago. I think we owe them a pasting for that one, don’t you?

Newcastle fans’ best memories of Sheffield Wednesday would be Sir Bobby Robson’s first game in charge where Newcastle ran rampant winning 8-0 with Alan Shearer bagging five on that day after being restored to the team following his omission by the previous manager Ruud Gullit when we lost against the great unwashed.

The last time the two sides met at Hillsborough was back in 2017 in the Championship which saw Sheff Wed come away 2-1 victors with Jonjo Shelvey’s 88th minute goal a mere consolation. They also beat us 1-0 at St James Park that same season.

We definitely owe them some revenge, so let’s hope our lads are ready to dish out the punishment come January.
