Newcastle United are all but through to the next round of the UEFA cup after a comfortable 3-1 win yesterday.

A professional display from the Toon saw off the efforts of Belgian part-timers Zulte-Waregrem.

Though the first half was largely lifeless Newcastle took the game to their opponents in the second half and were rewarded almost immediately.

Dyer broke in to the box and his cross was steered in to the Zulte net by Dindeleux.

Newcastle`s lead was doubled when Duff jinxed his way past three players before being brought down by goalkeeper Merlier.

Martins, back on penalty duties, stepped up and smashed the ball home left footed.

If Newcastle thought the tie was over and done with though, they had another thing coming.

Zulte-Waregrem managed to expose Newcastle`s inability to defend set pieces when a free kick was whipped in to the box and D’Haene was able to flick it home.

Zulte-Waregrem then had their best spell of the game, pushing Newcastle hard for 5 minutes.

But the tie was put beyond doubt when Sibierski capitalised on some lack defending to round the keeper and all but kill the tie.
