Newcastle Expected To Finalise £16.5m Swoop ‘Over The Weekend’

|

Our attempts to sign West Brom striker Salomon Rondon could be reaching the end game, with the Gambling Times reporting that we could secure the Venezuelan’s signing “over the weekend.”

Reporter Graeme Bailey suggests that the capture of the 28-year-old will come straight off the back of the sale of Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham.

The Serbian’s switch to London is due to be completed soon after the Cottagers agreed a fee “close to £20m,” reports the Evening Standard.

However, it seems we can’t afford to pay Rondon’s £16.5m release clause before Mitro’s move is finalised. Instead, we reportedly tried to offer an initial loan deal for the Venezuelan international, only for it to be rejected by the Baggies.

A permanent transfer now looks close if Bailey’s information is indeed correct. The West Brom forward scored 10 goals in 40 games last season, which equalled his best return in his three years playing in English football.
