The club have had a bid rejected by Swansea City for Federico Fernandez, according to Wales Online.
The Championship club have “flatly rejected” an offer described as “well below” their valuation of the player. The same source reported yesterday that the Welsh side are holding out for £10million for the centre-back.
However, it seems we haven’t given up on signing Fernandez with the Magpies still determined to seal a deal before the 5 pm transfer deadline.
One added complication is that Swansea are likely to sell another centre-back before the window shuts. Jordi Amat is poised to join Rayo Vallecano, and it would leave Graham Potter’s side with very few centre-half options.
It’s therefore likely that any deal for Fernandez would be predicated on the Swans bringing in another player before this evening too. This one looks to be going down to the wire. Do you think the 29-year-old would be a good signing? Let me know in the poll:
