Newcastle could be set to miss out on £31.5m rated long-term target – report

Newcastle face stiff competition if they want to sign Joelinton, according to German outfit Kicker.

In a different article, The Chronicle claim the Magpies have been long-time admirers of the Hoffenheim forward but Kicker only named Wolves who they believe are interested in signing the 22-year-old.

The two Premier League teams face each other in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday and now look set to go head-to-head for the Brazilian striker.

Joelinton scored seven goals and provided in seven assists in 28 Bundesliga matches last season and is valued at £31.5million by Transfermarkt. He only signed a new contract last November and has three years remaining on his contract.

The Chronicle have reported Newcastle’s scouts had been watching the player for a long period and was expected to make a £40million bid this summer.

However, this summer has not been good in terms of arrivals at St James’ Park, with the Tyneside club the only team in the Premier League yet to make a signing.

Kicker never mentioned figures in terms of transfer fees but did explain Wolves would be able to afford the deal, courtesy of their wealthy Chinese owners, Fosun International.
