Very few things get done at speed at Newcastle United although the integration of Rafa Benitez into the fold has helped one or two things get done.

This week has seen continued talk of new improved contracts for some of our squad with The Chronicle stating that three players are in line, at present, in being the next to renew their contracts.

Club captain Jamaal Lascelles is one name that keeps cropping up with the paper quoting Rafa Benitez in saying a deal was closer than last week.

Whilst this may be true, we wrote of a Lascelles deal being in the pipeline back in July with the prediction of being in the premier league as well as having a decent run of games creating an issue.

We said that the bigger spotlight would see talk of England call-ups and the need to protect a potential sell on or bigger valuation with him only having around 2 and a half years on his current contract. Something that is now coming to the fold.

Along with Lascelles, there was talk in July of Paul Dummett getting a new deal although his injury could be holding this up and with a couple of other players in line for deals, it isn’t too hard to speculate who this could mean.

Without wanting to speculate too much, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was the likes of Matt Ritchie or Rob Elliot.

Personally speaking, keeping Rafa happy and just doing normal footballing things like buying players and genuinely wanting the club to better itself is the most important thing for the future so let’s hope things go smoothly.
