Many Newcastle supporters have been reacting on social media in response to recent claims by Il Tempo, via Sport Witness, which suggested football agent Kia Joorabchian has met with Lazio Sporting Director of Football Igli Tare.

It is thought the meeting held in London at the start of the week was to discuss potential outgoings at the Serie A side, following reports of United chasing I Biancocelesti goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.

The Italian newspaper reported in their Monday edition that Lazio are confident in Newcastle’s ability to meet the €40million (£35.9m) asking price for they have set for the Albanian shot-stopper, if the Magpies are truly interested in his services, and thus have begun scouting alternative options.

Wojciech Szczesny’s understudy at Juventus Mattia Perin is currently seen as the prime candidate to replace Strakosha if he is bound for Tyneside, as the Italian benchwarmer’s importance in Turin has been weakened by the return of Gianluigi Buffon after a year with Paris Saint-Germain.

While Il Tempo do note state outright that Joorabchian’s meeting with Tare was to expedite the exit of Strakosha from Rome, the newspaper do not consider the discussions held in London to have been a mere coincidence given the links between the Albanian and Newcastle.

But United are not willing to meet Lazio’s asking price, even though Ayoze Perez’s move to Leicester City is thought to have boosted our available funds to acquire some like Strakosha.
