Newcastle United fans may have not had many reasons to take the positives in last Saturday’s tie with Brighton and Hove Albion but there were some small reasons for cheer.
Dominating possession of the ball as we did and creating a total of 27 chances on the day does give hope for the future if we can develop more of a clinical edge about ourselves.
A clear positive from the match was the individual efforts of Jonjoe Shelvey given his performance on the day and taking to social media in the aftermath of the match, plenty of Newcastle fans were desperate to take the positives he brought as we slipped to the bottom of the Premier League table and remained winless in the top-flight in the season of 2018/19.
Honestly feels like a matter of time before someone comes in for shelvey. Can’t do it all himself

Worrying when Jonjo Shelvey is the only player that offered anything going forward today, only bloke with some quality in that team ???? #AshleyOut

Lascelles was very poor today. Ritchie and Shelvey were by far our best players

You can’t only have one player that’s trying make something happen and we rely on Shelvey all the time

With the positives, and our current form, that definitely gives rise to a potentially negative though as the one comment ably points out – whilst manager Rafa Benitez will be looking to strengthen in the January window, there are genuine fears somebody will try to tempt our hand when it comes to the 26-year-old.
