We all long for a world where Newcastle United is not synonymous with the word takeover, but with uncertainty still rife, there have been yet more developments.

Things seemed to have gathered pace again following Newcastle’s Premier League status now being confirmed which has meant that more and more stories are coming out about the potential Saudi-led takeover deal that was initially expected to be complete about a year ago.

The latest reports include:

Mike Ashley wants it done in June

One thing that has become abundantly clear is that the Sports Direct Tycoon is desperate for this deal to go through, which in itself should give Toon fans a glimmer of hope.

With both arbitration and now an anti competition law suit filed against the Premier League, Ashley is fighting on multiple fronts to ensure a positive result.

Whilst his words may lead to him doing this out of the goodness of his own heart to try and give Newcastle a chance to compete at a similar level prior to him coming in and killing the club, his motives are clearly elsewhere.

He sees this as his last chance to get a decent amount for the club and this is a rare occasion where fans and owner are United in their goals but don’t be naive and think this means all is forgotten.

Premier League granted extension

The Premier League have been granted an extension to respond to the Competition Appeal Tribunal that has been filed against them.

On May 11th, they asked to be given until June the 15th and their wish has been granted.

The governing body of England’s top flight are allegedly going to argue to get the case thrown out as it is a conflict of interest with arbitration also going on.

Arbitration itself, is thought to begin around July time, which does put Ashley’s June date in question.

We all hope that this is the end game for the saga and that a positive result is found.
