James Milner says he would rather wipe away the memories of his last trip to Bolton as his team (Leeds United) got thumped 4-1. What ever happened to Leeds by the way?

Milner said in an interview with The Gazette: ‘I try to forget about that day – but whenever you go to Bolton it’s hard to do that. It wasn’t the greatest moment, and it was probably the worst day of my life in football. It was a sad time, but it would be nice to go there and get one over on them. It would be great to get some revenge and there’s no better place to go and get three points. You have to go there at some stage, and to take three points from the first game would be fantastic.’

With Big Sam making his first return to The Reebok Stadium since become our manager, Milner said it was always on the cards adding ‘it was destined to be the manager’s first game.’

He predicts a tough test but says the pre-season has got them in good shape and they are prepared.

‘Now under the new gaffer we hope to get that mentality going from the off. We need to get the goals and then shut up shop. We’re going there full of confidence. We can beat anybody on our day with these players, and hopefully this season we can be more consistent this season.’

Odds for the game: Bolton are 5/4, draw 21/10 and away win 9/5. Martins is 6/1 to be the first scorer, Viduka 13/2 and Smith 7/1.
