‘Might not have any other choice’ – Many Newcastle fans react to latest on Toon men’s future

|

Many Newcastle supporters have been reacting to a report by the Chronicle, detailing the first-team United players who could push for more action following Rafa Benitez’s exit.

It was already thought players like Ayoze Perez, Isaac Hayden and Fabian Schar could push to secure moves away from St James’ Park now that Mike Ashley and Managing Director Lee Charnley failed to reach an agreement with the boss to see that he continues his tenure on Tyneside into a fourth full season.

Now, the Chronicle feel the Magpies’ search for a new head coach will be music to the ears of some of the players cast into the fringes by Benitez, with those frozen out seeing the new man in charge as their best chance to change their fortunes.

Of the many that may apply to, the local paper suggests Dwight Gayle will be at the front of the queue welcoming whoever takes up the St James’ Park hot seat. The 28-year-old has often been linked with a move away since his loan with West Brom came to an end, yet the London-born forward could be the only other recognised striker alongside Yoshinori Muto when the new campaign starts, as Joselu is expected to move back to Spain this summer.

Jacob Murphy is another who could be hoping for more minutes, as he has failed to earn a consistent run in the side since joining the Magpies two years ago, while reported Nottingham Forest target Jack Colback has the chance to revive a United career that looked dead and buried under Benitez.

Rolando Aarons, meanwhile, has been linked with a potential loan move to the Greek Super League, but may be kept around under a new head coach, especially if Steve Bruce is handed the job after his name emerged as a potential target for the club.

Finally, Benitez shunned Achraf Lazaar during his first year with the club, as he failed to convince the boss of his talents while we were in the Championship, but the left-back has spoken about wanting to prove himself at United in a bid to earn his 11th competitive appearance with the Magpies.

Here’s how these Newcastle fans reacted when they saw that the Chronicle suggested Gayle, Murphy, Aarons, Colback and Lazaar could be wearing the Black and White again next season…
