Matheus Franca – Deal Is “One To Watch” According To Craig Hope

|

Newcastle are said to be locked in negotiations with Brazilian side, Flamengo over a deal for their exciting young attacking midfielder, Matheus Franca.

The latest talk is that the Magpies have submitted an offer of €16m (£14m) but Flamengo want an extra €4m to allow the player to leave. These reports come from The Chronicle who also claim that Arsenal are also interested – of course they are, they’re interested in everyone we’re linked with.

However, Craig Hope of the Daily Mail has said that this deal is one to watch. Taking to his YouTube channel as he takes a windy walk around Gosforth, Hope said, “I’m told there is interest there and talks are at an early stage. That is another one which is active, but perhaps one to watch.”

Franca is just 18 years old and has been compared to Vinicius Jr. He fits the profile of Newcastle’s current recruitment drive to a tee. Young, talented, one for the future but could do a job right away if needed.

There is a release clause of €75m in his contract, which shows how much potential Flamengo think he has, so if we were able to pick him up for €20m that would be an absolute steal.

Newcastle are currently screaming out for more creativity in the final third after scoring just one goal in the last four league games, and Franca could be a piece of that puzzle. His young age may mean that Howe would likely bide his time bedding him into the first team, but he’s made 22 appearances for Flamengo already, so he is first-team ready. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough.

It’s Tuesday which means the Vital Football Podcast will be live tonight at 8pm. Watch me struggle to concentrate on what’s being said while I watch and react the Newcastle game at the same time. Also, come watch an Evertonian have a meltdown.
