Whilst he might not exactly be the most committed player to Newcastle United I`m having a bit of a mental block seeing why Man Utd would be sniffing about England`s Michael Owen. Considering he`s played less than 1000 minutes football in the last two years I find it strange that Ferguson would take a punt on a player who has an even worse injury record than the man he`d be replacing, Louis Saha.

“The article quotes a £12m release clause being activated and a Man Utd ‘insider`. It`s bound to happen then! Here`s what the notorious insider had to say:

“It is no secret that Sir Alex wants another striker and he is bound to be attracted by someone of Owen’s pedigree at such a competitive price. Naturally we would have to be certain he has recovered from his injury and that is why his return will be closely monitored. Ideally we want to see him in action for several games between now and the end of the season.’
