Ayoze Perez is a regular topic of discussion amongst Newcastle fans, and with good reason. He’s remained a key part of Rafael Benitez’s plans all season long, and it’s hard to see why.
Week after week, the attacker has failed to deliver on his obvious talent, and at points he’s been more of a hindrance than anything else.
So, it’s no real surprise that some fans want to see him lose his place within the Newcastle team. Indeed, we recently asked fans whether he should be dropped, and 33% of polled Newcastle supporters have called for Benitez to drop the player that he clearly rates so highly.
Of course, that means that a majority still want him to play, but this is still interesting. A year ago, you can bet that the response would have been far more unanimous on the side of giving him a start, but some fans clearly haven’t been impressed recently.
Not to mention, some fans have likely come around to the idea of playing him again given his goal against Blackburn, but some still clearly think that he’s not up to the task.
Either way, Ayoze Perez has a lot of work to do if he wants to truly earn the faith back of all the Newcastle fans. It’s been a steady decline for him all season long.
