Newcastle United have agreed a deal worth £3 million for Bolton skipper Kevin Nolan, but will also lodge a substantial bid in the early hours of tomorrow morning for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso.

It is understood that Mike Ashley is an admirer of the 22-year-old, and is keen to add him to the contingency at St. James’ Park before the transfer window slams shut on Monday night.

Nolan is expected to complete his move tomorrow as well, as Derek Llambias desperately seeks to outbid Bolton Wanderers for Veloso. Manchester City are also interested in the tough-tackling Portuguese International, but their interest may not be strong enough to trump the Magpies, with whom, negotiations regarding Shay Given are still on-going.
