Newcastle United are considering making an audacious bid to sign teenage sensation Jonjo Shelvey from lowly Charlton Athletic.

Shelvey is one of the brightest prospects of League One, and Chris Hughton has been advised to rethink a bid for the 17-year-old midfield wonderkid.

The Addicks are reluctant to sell their prized asset for nothing less than £10 million, but a £5 million cash bid could seal the deal for the Toon.

Newcastle United are already close to opening negotations with Leeds United and Sheffield United for Jermaine Beckford, and Matthew Kilgallon, while moves for Wednesday centre-back Mark Beevers, and loan star Danny Simpson also look to be explored.
