Newcastle United handed their survival hopes a huge boost on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth.

The Magpies were winless in their first 10 Premier League games this season but brought that woeful run to an end last weekend by edging past Watford and followed that result with their latest outing against the Cherries.

Salomon Rondon was the hero as he opened his account in his loan stint from West Brom but fans on social media saved praise for other members of the squad, with a number of additions made by Rafael Benitez earning plaudits.

The defensive performances of Fabian Schar and Federico Fernandez attracted praise, while midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung put in a superb shift and left many speculating that Jonjo Shelvey could find it difficult to get back into the side.

Ki earned only his fifth Premier League appearance of the season but, after providing the assist for Ayoze Perez’s winner last weekend, caught the eye again against Bournemouth.
