The Chronicle journalist Mark Douglas says there is “no truth” to reports coming out of Belgium that we have had an offer accepted for Anderlecht striker Isaac Thelin.

Het Laatste Nieuws had reported that bids of up to €6m (£5.3m) had been accepted from us and Lokomotiv Moscow for the Swedish international. However, the reporter confirmed on Twitter that we are looking at other targets:

Thelin is a target man and would certainly be in the mould of Salomon Rondon if we were looking for alternatives to the Venezuelan. However, his goalscoring record would certainly come under scrutiny.

The 26-year-old wasn’t prolific at the start of his career in his native Sweden and didn’t fare much better when he moved to France to play for Bordeaux in Ligue One.

His best goalscoring season actually came last campaign for Anderlecht where he scored 19 goals in 39 appearances for the Belgian club. Signing a striker off the back of one good season is generally not a good idea so perhaps we should be glad that we are not interested in signing him.

Should we sign Thelin? Let me know in the poll:
