List of admirers growing for Newcastle outcast despite setback – report

|

There’s no doubt that Championship clubs desire Dwight Gayle – but getting him to their club is easier said than done.

According to the latest report from the Daily Mail, a number of top-six clubs from the Championship are eyeing the forward as they pursue the treasure chest of the Premier League.

It is said that Fulham, Nottingham Forest, West Brom and now Sheffield Wednesday – who haven’t really been linked before – are all fighting for his signature.

The 29-year-0ld has struggled for first-team football all season, although actually has begun to feature more in the past few weeks, though if Toon are successful in signing another forward then it is expected that he will be allowed to depart.

Luckily for United and any other potential buyer, the injury in which he sustained against Wolves on the weekend does not look as bad as first feared, and he should be ready to play at the beginning of the next month.

Are Newcastle's demands for Gayle fair?

Yes

No

The report states that Gayle will be allowed to leave the club on loan until the end of the season, though there will be a £10m obligation to buy fee.

The 72 claims that the forward could also cost any potential buyer about £60,000 per week to take on loan, so any team that does go after him will be taking a big punt on him getting them to the promised land.

Newcastle will be hoping that they can both get another attacker through the door at the club as well as sell Gayle while they can. At 29, he is not getting any younger and he only has 18 months or so remaining on his current contract, so by selling him in this window they are likely to maximise their return on him.

Additionally, if the club do purchase another forward, then that £10m and alleged £60,000 per week could go a long way to afford that player.
