‘Like signing Joselu because he has played for RM’ – These Newcastle fans discuss alleged new man

Newcastle United are close to signing former Chelsea midfielder Kyle Scott, according to the Chronicle.

The Pensioners released Scott at the end of the recent campaign when his contract at Stamford Bridge expired, and it is believed he has now agreed to a two-year deal with the Magpies.

An immediate first-team role is not expected for the 21-year-old, however, with Steve Bruce’s second signing since taking charge of the Toon due to join the club’s Under 23s, where his development will be closely monitored.

Bath-born Scott, who joined Chelsea at the age of ten, is capable of playing throughout the midfield zone and is eligible to represent England, the USA or Ireland on the international stage due to his US citizenship and English heritage.

The 5 ft 6 midfielder has not worn the colours of any of his available countries since 2013, when he made his USMNT U18s debut against France and England U16s breakthrough against Germany.

Scott also made just one first-team outing for Chelsea during his lengthy stint in South West London, with Antonio Conte handing the 21-year-old his Blues debut in the FA Cup against Hull City in 2018 along with various appearances on the Italian’s bench.

Maurizio Sarri sent Scott out on loan shortly after his arrival at Stamford Bridge, though, with the midfielder moving to Eerste Divisie side Telstar – who finished the 2018/19 season 15th in the Dutch second-tier, with the ex-Chelsea man making 14 appearances, scoring twice.

While Newcastle are yet to confirm Scott’s transfer to United, images have surfaced online of the Bath-born midfielder at St James’ Park, appearing to be presented as a Magpies player.
