Word On The Tweet

“Lies and deceit”, “Carroll for a four year contract” – Many NUFC fans react to new role for board member

Lots of Newcastle fans have responded on Twitter to the news that managing director Lee Charnley has been put in charge of the transfer administration during the club’s furlough period.

It was announced on Monday that Mike Ashley had made the call to temporarily let go much of his staff during the coronavirus pandemic, with the government scheme paying 80 per cent of wages up to £2,500 a month.

Part of those who have been laid off during the outbreak is the scouting team, including the head of recruitment Steve Nickson and scouts Paul Backer and Mick Tait.

Now that the scouting team has shut down, the scouts are not even allowed to be working from home, leaving some questions about what will happen for transfers next season.

It is said that Steve Bruce and Charnley will stay in close touch throughout the process and deal with any relevant correspondence.

The fan account @NUFC360 tweeted about the news, whilst linking a story from The Chronicle, to which many fans replied to.

Plenty of Newcastle fans responded to the news, and with Charnley being so closely associated with the board and Mike Ashley, they weren’t best pleased by the news.
