Langley’s Ladies Break Another Record

|

Newcastle United Women took on Barnsley Women in the second round of the Vitality FA Cup this afternoon at St James’ Park.

There were 28,565 fans in attendance for today’s game which is a Vitality FA Cup record outside of a final. Well done to all those who attended.

The crowd held up flags and banners and even the wording on the overhang in the tunnel had been changed to “Howay the lasses” which is a great touch from the owners who are really living up to their promise in investing and supporting the women’s team.

Well done, also to the lasses who came from behind to beat Barnsley 2-1 and put themselves into the hat for the third-round draw.

Newcastle found themselves 1-0 down after just 15 minutes and that’s the way it stayed until half time with Newcastle barely getting out of second gear.

It took until the 70th minute for the lasses to even the scoreline but they did so in style with a driven 18 yard beauty, but the best was yet to come as around four minutes later the winner was belted home from over forty yards out. A strike worthy of winning any game, but definitely suitable for a record-breaking cup tie.
