Dutch Under-21 coach Cor Pot has expressed his concerns over lack of opportunities for his star goalkeeper Tim Krul at crisis club Newcastle United.

Pot was critical of the Magpies’ policy of preferring older, more experienced players than youngsters with potential.

As is the case at Newcastle at the moment, Steve Harper is first choice in goal, and Tim Krul has to settle for a place on the bench, but Pot has made it clear that Krul would need first-team starts to guarantee any place on the national level.

“I`m not too happy about Tim`s situation at Newcastle United,” said Por.

“They seem to prefer experienced players rather than young talents in England.”

“Tim will have to make appearances at club level to be selected for the national teams.”
