There is some more positive news from St James’ Park today as the club officially announced that Tim Krul has signed a new contract at the club keeping him with the Magpies until the end of the 2013/14 season.

Krul has not played much first team football at Newcastle in his time at the club but in the few games he has had he has become something of a fans favourite. And it’s fair to say the majority of supporters want to eventually see Krul as the number one once Steve Harper hangs up his gloves.

Whilst many predicted a pre season of doom and gloom with a mass exodus of players it has to be seen as an encouraging sign that a young player like Krul is prepared to commit long term to the club.

Krul, 22, made his debut in the UEFA Cup away to Palermo. A Match Newcastle won 1-0 thanks to a rare Albert Luque effort. He has however gained plenty of first team experience in lower leagues with loan spells at Falkirk and Carlisle.

So fair he has only made nine appearances for us with two of them coming from the bench.
