Reports in Sundays papers were linking Michael Owen, who has seen negotiations stall over his proposed new bumper contract, with a £7million switch to Man United but Kevin Keegan has laughed these off, saying: ‘don’t believe all that you have read!’

No truer a word spoken really is there, too many people take what is written in the papers as gospel don’t they, and it is rarely if ever the case.

What do you think the future holds for Owen and the Toon? Will he sign a new deal, or could the club be forced into a position where they might have to cash in on the England international to prevent him leaving on a free transfer next summer?
