Fulham are “closer” to signing Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to the Times journalist George Caulkin.
After Serbia exited the World Cup at the group stages, it seems the Cottagers will now step up their attempts to sign the player on a permanent basis.
We reportedly want £20m for the 23-year-old, and most fans on Twitter are happy with that amount:
I’d take £22m for Mitrovic #NUFC

#NUFC rate Mitrovic at £20 mill plus so think they would rather cash in. Although it's just matter of time before AC is linked to us.

A lot of people's attitude to Mitrovic reminds me of the time Sir Bobby said after we sold Carl Cort that "Carl might come back and kick us in the teeth one day; in a way I rather hope he does." Which is a canny weird way to think/go on #nufc

Do people still think Mitrovic might be the answer for #nufc next season? I was watching a different World Cup

Good and bad. Good that he’ll be sold within a few weeks but bad that he should have had a pen and would be worth an extra 5 million getting through the groups.

Mitrovic could go the whole season without scoring a goal then score a goal against us in the last game of the season and people will still say Rafa was wrong #NUFC

And we would see £5M of that money ????

Might eventually kick start our window now

Verdict
Mitro did have a pretty decent World Cup but I don’t think there is a way back for him at St James’ Park. Rafa favoured Joselu and Dwight Gayle ahead of him last season, and I don’t think his situation has changed despite his performances for Fulham and for Serbia.
Whether we’ll get the £20m we are demanding, we’ll have to wait and see. Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic is said to be very keen to link up with his fellow Serbian once again after the striker scored 12 goals in 20 appearances in the Championship during the second half of last season.
