Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie did have an exchange of words before the club’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, according to the Chronicle‘s chief sports writer Lee Ryder.
In an argument which is described as a “little heated,” the Newcastle captain expressed his concerns about Rafa Benitez’s decision to use a five-man defence. Our no.11 then added his views to the debate.
However, it seems that such an exchange was nothing out of the ordinary. It is believed the pair are on speaking terms and there is no rift inside the dressing room despite reports from the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope that there was an issue that led to the two players having to be separated by other players.
Even so, Hope’s report indicates that Rafa sat down with the pair and both shook hands so there should be no issues going forward. Of course, Lascelles is no stranger to getting into heated exchanges with teammates. He confronted Mo Diame during a training session back in October after feeling that the Senegalese midfielder was failing to give his all.
Do you think this later confrontation will affect our captain’s future at all? Let me know in the poll:
