Ahead of the Spurs game this weekend, Joe Kinnear has shrugged off the potential absence of Oba Martins and stated that the attacking balance of the side will not be affected. With plenty of options available to him since the return of Duff and Viduka, he said:

‘Martins is the only player we are waiting on – the long-term ones are the only ones who are out. Martins will be having a fitness check on Saturday morning, and I regard him as 50-50 at the moment, nothing more than that.

The fact is we have a very strong bench at the minute. Damien Duff was on it (at Portsmouth), Viduka and Shola, so it keeps everybody on their toes. We’re at the stage now where those wearing the shirts must play exceptionally well to retain them to keep it. We have key players coming back, and Duffers has been unfortunate.

Charles N’Zogbia has done so well, but I’m pleased that these players are putting pressure on each other and getting the best out of each other. We’ve got a decent squad when we’re all fit and well, and because of that, I’m not panicking about bringing in players. But I’d like to bring in a couple to strengthen it and to make sure when we do have injuries, we’re covered.’
