Newcastle loanee Jetro Willems celebrated his 26th birthday on Monday and many Magpies’ fans were quick to wish him happy returns.
Alongside that, several others made clear their wish for the full-back to stay, having impressed so far since joining last summer.
A season-ending injury against Chelsea in January put to rest any chance he has had of becoming a key player, and though Danny Rose was added as his replacement there are still many who would prefer to see the Dutchman occupy the left wing-back role next season.
Steve Bruce made an astute decision to bring him in on a temporary basis, but the club also has the option to buy Willems for a reported fee of £10m, and a number of fans have called for them to take up that option in the deal.
The on-loan Frankfurt man has been effective in both attack and defence with 1.1 dribbles and 1.9 tackles per game, not to mention his goals against Liverpool and Manchester City.
It would be brilliant to see him back at St. James’ Park and raring to go once more, so here’s hoping the club activate that clause.
