A few Newcastle United fans have been discussing if the Toon have a problem with turning in consistent performances under Steve Bruce, having held Manchester City to a draw on Saturday.
The players were able to keep at least one point at St. James’ Park to show for their efforts at the weekend, as Jonjo Shelvey struck home in the 88th-minute to overturn the lead Kevin de Bruyne had gifted the Sky Blues just moments before.
Jetro Willems had likewise pulled the score level minutes after City took the lead, with the Dutch full-back notching his second Premier League goal by beating Ederson just three minutes after Raheem Sterling had opened the scoring.
The point taken against Pep Guardiola’s champions was our seventh recorded against one of last season’s top-six sides, after beating Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United earlier in the campaign.
However, the City result also came within a week of losing 2-0 to promoted Aston Villa on Monday night, where our two-game winning streak reached its end in disappointing fashion by being outplayed by the Birmingham-based outfit.
We also failed to repeat our win over Spurs when we welcomed Watford to the North East back in August, where Brighton & Hove Albion later dominated proceedings.
Our festive schedule now pits Bruce’s men against high-flying Sheffield United on Thursday night before hosting relegation-threatened Southampton on Sunday, who are currently four points behind us having won their first league game in nine at the weekend.
Do we have a consistency issue?
Yes
No
Here are some of the messages shared as fans discussed if we have a consistency issue…
Makes games like the performance at Aston Villa game more frustrating

The problem of the season so far. Alright beating Spurs and Man United and drawing yesterday when you’re not expected to, it’s Norwich, Villa, Watford, Brighton the games you should be having good performances and getting more from that’ll be the difference

4 points off 18th and 3 off 6th. The next 4 games could define our season

Some decent opportunities to keep a run going against Sheff Utd, Southampton, Burnley, Palace
We need Joelinton to be involved in shooting or were going to continue only seeing defenders score

Can’t always play defensive all the time… Its acceptable against team like Man City but next game, Sheffield, seriously need to attack

At least we are hard to beat at home as that might just be enough. The away form is concerning especially against teams around us but we always have a strong second half of the season so if that’s the case then we are well placed to keep out of trouble. #NUFC
