The Matty Longstaff saga continues – and with every day that goes by it seems more and more likely that he will depart St James Park.

With the question still firmly on the minds of many Newcastle United fans, one decided to prompt the question to the reporter Mark Douglas at the Chronicle who was running a live Q&A over the weekend.

One fan asked what the situation is with the player, to which the reporter responded by saying that the situation remains deadlocked. Furthermore, the journalist went onto say how there is a big offer from a team on the continent.

Here is his response in full: “The situation remains deadlocked and Matty Longstaff has been overlooked for a few months now in the first team – his absence on the pitch coinciding with his unsigned contract.

“Newcastle insist there is a deal for him but the player’s agent says it is not up to scratch compared to what others his age and of his potential are earning. As I reported a while back, there is a BIG offer on the table from a European club.

“If there is no budging from NUFC, he could well leave in July.”

Will Matty Longstaff sign a new contract with NUFC?

Yes

Yes

No

So far this season, Longstaff has made 12 first-team appearances this season, scoring three goals in the process.

Nevertheless, he has had a lot less football in recent months, which, as Douglas states, is no coincidence given the contract stalemate.

There was a pretty mixed response from the fanbase, with some suggesting that they should not be surprised if he leaves due to Ashley being in charge, while others believe that the club shouldn’t just buckle at his demands.

Here are some of the replies…

Obviously, he is a Newcastle academy product and has an older brother at the club, so it will be quite a loss if they cannot keep him at the club.

But as stated before, you can understand why the club might be unwilling to completely give in to his demand as it sets a bad example for the rest of the club.
