Newcastle’s American international defender DeAndre Yedlin was expected to miss the majority of pre-season training here but there’s been a change.

This is because Yedlin was expected to continue to play over the Summer in the various USA games but it seems he now wont according to The Chronicle.

After the next two World Cup games in which he could feature this week against Trinidad and then Mexico next Monday, the paper says that he hasn’t made the 40 name preliminary squad for their forthcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup participation.

The cup that takes place over three weeks in the USA, starts at the beginning of July when pre-season training starts on Tyneside and wouldn’t have ended for him until the end of July.

With international players here usually getting extra time off when they have been away, this would have meant that Yedlin could have potentially been away until the 2nd week of August and right up until our premier league season starts on the weekend of the 11th/12th/13th and 14th.

With that 40 man USA squad still looking at being cut down for that Gold Cup, it’s not expected that Yedlin could see a change of mind and he should return to the club the week after our training starts for tests. Probably around the 10th of July.
