So the England International manager ventured far enough from the usual haunts to make his presence noticed on Tyneside.

Current England stooge Gareth Southgate was pictured in the director’s box beside the likes of Lee Charnley, Oz from Auf Weidersehn Pet (Jimmy Nail) and Sting at yesterday’s win over Crystal Palace at St James’ Park.

It’s not clear who he was there to run the rule over but with us having Jonjo Shelvey, Jamaal Lascelles and Isaac Hayden who qualify for England as well as Crystal Palace having wingers Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha. It could have been anyone with plenty on offer.

The game wasn’t the best one for any of the players to stake a claim as it was pretty tight and the wet weather didn’t help either but I thought one or two showed flashes of what they can do.

Out of our lot, Lascelles played his part in helping the defence shut out Crystal Palace and Shelvey was alright with his passing range and moreso when Mikel Merino came on to help replacing the quite ineffective Isaac Hayden.

Personally I want our players kept away from London FC because it’s not the honour it once was in my eyes as players who are English and play for the so called top teams just seem to get in on the back of players in their own team being on form.

Us up in the North East have watched countless players over the years being in real top form but then ignored.

We’ll see what happens on the back of this with England having friendlies against Germany and Brazil in the next break.
