Plenty of Newcastle United fans have reacted on Twitter to whether or not they should be signing left-back Jetro Willems in the summer.
The Frankfurt defender had started the season very brightly but was pegged back with a season-ending injury which has thrown his future in doubt.
With the 25-year-old rupturing his cruciate ligaments against Chelsea, Newcastle made the decision to remove him from the Premier League squad to free up a space for replacement Danny Rose who has subsequently joined the club.
Furthermore, the club had an option to make the wing-back’s deal permanent at the end of the season, but with him now not being apart of the squad, those chances may well have been scuppered.
Would you sign Jetro Willems in the summer?
Yes, definitely
No thanks
Despite Willems being out for the best part of nine months, the Newcastle fans haven’t forgotten his impressive form at the beginning of the season.
The Newcastle dedicated Twitter page from the Chronicle tweeted about the situation, asking fans whether or not they would give the player a permanent deal in the summer.
Even with the arrival of Rose, Willems is a player that the fans still want to see come through the door.
Here are some of what they are saying.

Given his loan has been ended early I’m assuming that means we forfeit the agreed fee option? Which was around 7 million, an absolute steal the way he was playing. No doubt now the price will be more and “we’ll have the plate spinning” but “couldn’t get it over the line”

On ability and attitude most definitely but let’s see what impact this injury has first. If he returns to 100% then yes

Definitely. But what the fans want and what we get are often 2 very different things….

When you look at his statistics thus far, you can see why they may want him long term.
He has played 19 games in the league for them this season, chipping in with two goals and two assists, making him the player with the second-highest amount of goal contributions in the league for the Magpies.
